Prof receives Tikkun Olam Award for Haiti Jewish Refugee Legacy Project

Jewish Tribune – Tuesday, 01 November 2011
JERUSALEM – Professor Robert S. Wistrich has been given the Haiti Jewish Refugee Legacy Project’s Tikkun Olam Award for his unyielding commitment to the study and exposure of global antisemitic events and trends.
“Prof. Wistrich’s extraordinary work is a beacon of hope to all who feel the increasing threat of strikingly troubling antisemitic discrimination and persecution,” said Harriet and Bill Mohr, founders, Haiti Jewish Refugee Legacy Project, in a written statement. “His tireless efforts to discover, reveal and transform this alarming landscape are ‘Tikkun Olam’ – world reparation – at its very best.”
Wistrich is director of the Vidal Sassoon International Center for the Study of Antisemitism, and the Neuberger chair for Modern European History, at Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He was also honoured earlier this year by the Journal for the Study of Antisemitism (JSA), which named him the “leading scholar in the field of anti-Semitism [sic] study” and gave him their Lifetime Achievement Award. The JSA also recognized his book, A Lethal Obsession: Antisemitism from Antiquity to Global Jihad, as the “Best Book of 2010” on the topic of antisemitism.
